Creating Jobs

Since 2010, it has been my priority to bring more jobs and businesses to Hastings.

In my maiden speech, I called for economic regeneration of Hastings following the Labour Government from 1997 - 2010 which neglected many seaside communities.

Since I have served as the MP for Hastings and Rye, the unemployment rate in East Sussex has more than halved. The number of businesses in Hastings has increased from 3,160 to 3700 since 2010 and wages have been increasing in real terms in 2019. As it stands, the unemployment rate is the lowest since 1974 at 3.8%.

As part of my drive to bring economic regeneration to previously forgotten seaside towns, I have held a Jobs Fair every year. The Jobs Fair brings employers looking to hire local people in touch with those who are looking for work. My next Jobs Fair is on 27 September.
