Education in Hastings and Rye

Getting the best for our young people starts with a good education.

This means having high quality schools with passionate teachers, and I am delighted that NowTeach operates in Hastings - bringing in teachers with real world experience within their chosen subjects.

Following my representations to Government, Hastings was designated an Opportunity Area, which means we are one of 12 areas benefiting from a £72 million pool of funding. The Opportunity Area has brought new initiatives to schools in our towns to raise attainment and proficiency, and I am glad that there have been real improvements. 

I have been fighting to improve literacy amongst our students and have started a campaign called "Reading With Rudd". More news on this and other campaigns are below:

Amber enjoys breakfast at Baird Primary Academy

MP FOR HASTINGS AND RYE, AMBER RUDD HAS VISITED BAIRD PRIMARY which is benefitting from the National Breakfast Programme. The programme provides pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds with a healthy breakfast.

SCHOOLCHILDREN in Hastings and Rye will receive a crash course from Google on how to stay safe online and avoid internet trolls.

Hastings MP Amber Rudd hosted Google to educate 7-11 year olds on both the opportunities and dangers of the internet.

Dedicated Ark students receive Art and Sports bursaries

Dedicated Ark students were celebrated at an inaugural award ceremony for the Helenswood and William Parker Sports and Arts bursaries.

The ceremony was attended by Rt Hon Amber Rudd who awarded the successful students with their bursaries.
