On Monday the Education Secretary, Justine Greening, announced an additional investment into schools in England of £1.3billion to support the transition to a new fairer national funding formula due in April 2018.

School Ambassadors meet local MP

Hastings support charity, Education Futures Trust, took Learning Ambassadors from 6 schools to visit the Houses of Parliament in London on Wednesday 12th July.

MP Visits Brede School

On 16th June, Brede Primary School welcomed Amber Rudd, the Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye.

First Roundtable on ‘Opportunity Area’

Friday 17 March saw the first roundtable discussion on what the recently announced Department for Education’s Opportunity Area means for Hastings and St Leonards.


Hastings and Rye MP Amber Rudd visited Ark Blacklands Primary Academy to congratulate it on being rated as ‘Outstanding’ in a recent Ofsted inspection.

The school became one of only eleven in the country to go straight from an ‘Inadequate’ grading to ‘Outstanding’.

Hastings designated DfE ‘Opportunity Area’

Today the Education Secretary, Justine Greening, announced that Hastings will become an Opportunity Area, an initiative by the Department for Education, which has been extended to include another six areas totalling twelve across the country.
