The Checkatrade.com Expo was held at Azur last Friday, 17 March, with the emphasis on highlighting the importance of protecting consumers and businesses across the UK from rogue traders and cowboy builders.
The Expo included an all day exhibition showcasing a selection of local products and services, a live demonstration of a brand new nationwide exercise regime called Blockfit performed by X-Factor's Chico, and a special presentation by multi award winning real life entrepreneur and Founder of Checkatrade.com group of companies Kevin Byrne. Kevin told the s
tory from when he set up the business 19 years ago in his bedroom and now employs more than 300 staff who are responsible for contributing an incredible £2.8 Billion pounds per annum to the UK economy.
Special guests included Amber Rudd, the Hastings and Rye MP, Chairman of East Sussex County Council, The Chairman and Vice Chairman of Rother District Council, The Mayors of Eastbourne, Battle and Hastings and the Deputy Mayors of Hastings and Bexhill. The event was also attended by an impersonator of Dave Channel and UK Gold TV'S Delboy - real name David Byrne.
The CEO and Founder of Checkatrade.com Kevin Byrne said:
"The Checkatrade.com Expo gives us the opportunity to engage with the local community and allows us to educate consumer's and fellow tradespeople about cowboy builders and rogue traders, it is through business and community Ambassadors of Checkatrade.com like Lord Brett McLean that gives us that local connection, This year's Expo was vitally important to us as it gave us the opportunity to engage with the local MP and inform her about our safeguarding mission statement for UK residents."
Brett who organised the event said:
"This years Expo was a great event that had a real buzz to it with visitors engaging in the live Blockfit demo with Chico, taking part in a number of interactive activities from app development and engaging with weight training with Britain's strongest woman, but it also emphasised the importance of Checkatrade.com working in partnership with East Sussex Trading Standards Authority .
Amber Rudd commented:
“Each year this Expo places an even bigger emphasis on protecting consumers’ and businesses’ rights. It is vitally important that local people understand what services are available to them, how they can identify trustworthy tradespeople, and what actions to take if they have any complaints. I would like to pay tribute to the organisers of the Checkatrade.com Expo for raising awareness about this these important issues in our communities.”
