Amber Rudd, MP for Hastings and Rye, met with Colin Stack, Scheme Manager of Devonport House, Rye, a dementia friendly organisation which is owned and run by Sussex Housing & Care, a not-for-profit provider of housing and care for older people in Sussex. Amber also met with Steve White, the Chief Executive and with Peter Bishop, the Property Services Manager.
Amber said, “I was delighted to be invited to join the management and residents of Devonport House last Friday for tea and cake, and to receive such a warm welcome. I can see that the residents form a lively community, which is very much an integral part of Rye. It is lovely to think that the residents enjoy their own rooms and space, whilst having community facilities on hand too, enabling both privacy on the one hand, and interaction on the other, right in the centre of Rye with easy access to the town.”
Steve White said, “Residents at Devonport House and I were pleased to welcome Amber Rudd MP to our scheme and see the facilities we have here. We enjoy being part of the local community and at the moment we are working hard to become a dementia friendly organisation. Our residents have told us loud and clear that they want to stay in their own home for as long as possible. Our focus is to do everything in our power to make this possible so we intend to expand our service to offer care at home.”
