Amber recently wrote to Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Andrew Jones MP, regarding rail fares. The Minister, who is responsible for rail, reassured Amber that rail fares are being used to support the railway and the level of service users receive.
Currently, 98p of every £1 paid on rail fares goes back into the railway. These fares are being used to support the biggest modernisation programme on our railways since Victorian times.
The Rail Minister reassured Amber that “[t]he industry needs to be accountable not just to Ministers, but also to the passengers who have suffered as a result of delays” and that “the Government is working hard to ensure that the rail industry delivers the level of service that [her] constituents rightly expect”.
