On Friday 3 May, Amber Rudd MP took part in an annual cheque presentation at Rye Community Shop. The shop has been at the centre of fundraising in Rye for some years, and has managed to raise yet another impressive amount for local charities and community associations. This year the shop has raised a formidable £20,000 for a total of 19 grassroots community organisations – organisations, which range from a local nursery to sea cadets.
During the presentation of cheques, Amber enquired of each organisation what they proposed to do with the money that they had been awarded. The proposals ranged from new baby changing facilities at Ferry Road Nursery to updated changing facilities at Rye Sea Cadets. The event ended on a very positive note, with Hastings and Rye’s MP closing with a speech congratulating the shop and it’s staff on their excellent fundraising efforts, and thanking the organisations present for their invaluable work in and for the local community.
Commenting on the event, Amber said: “I was honoured to have been invited back to Rye Community Shop’s annual charity cheque presentation. May I offer my sincere congratulations to the staff here for having successfully raised so much for the town of Rye and its residents. I was particularly impressed to hear how the organisations receiving their cheques intend to spend the money that they have received. I look forward to visiting as many of these local charities and associations in the future and seeing for myself the improvements to their facilities when they are completed.”
