General Election E-Newsletter 18 April

We need an election on 8th June to secure the strong and stable leadership our country needs. I look forward to standing for a third time in Hastings and Rye to continue to deliver growth and opportunities for our communities.
An election now will strengthen the Prime Minister’s negotiating hand in Europe and help us to get the best deal as we leave the European Union.
We have this one-off chance to hold an election while the EU agrees its negotiating position and before the detailed talks begin. This decision cannot be delayed and it needs to happen now.
The Conservatives have the right plan for negotiating with Europe. We will seek a deep and special partnership between the EU and a United Kingdom which is free to chart its own way in the world.
Theresa May has the plan and proven leadership to build a stronger economy and provide real opportunity for everyone. An economy which rewards people who work hard, and which creates secure and well-paid jobs. A country where everyone has the chance to get on in life, where there is enough affordable housing and a good school place for every child.
In Hastings and Rye it is clear that only a Conservative government with strong leadership can deliver the regeneration and the growth our area needs. The number of people claiming the key out of work benefits last month was down by 54% since 2010. We are taking significant steps towards major projects such as high speed rail to bring investment to our area and increase opportunities for local people. And, we are seeing the government investing millions into our communities to boost regeneration and growth.
This election will present clear choices. Strong and stable leadership in the national interest with Theresa May and the Conservatives, or weak and unstable coalition government under Jeremy Corbyn. A bright future for Hastings and Rye with regeneration and growth, or a Labour party failing to deliver the investment our towns need.
I will be standing in this election for a strong and successful United Kingdom, and to ensure that our communities in Hastings and Rye continue to grow and to prosper.

Yours sincerely,

Amber Rudd MP
