“Mind your head!”: Amber learns mindfulness techniques from St Thomas pupils

AMBER RUDD MP TOOK UP THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN VALUABLE MINDFULNESS TECHNIQUES from St Thomas’ Mindfulness Ambassadors.

Amber was visiting St Thomas C of E Aided Primary in Winchelsea to celebrate the fantastic work the staff and pupils are doing at the school around mental health and wellbeing.

Amber met with the school’s Mindfulness Ambassadors and took part in practicing the many techniques they have learnt. She then shared with the pupils the breathing techniques she uses before doing an important speech.

Amber is passionate about championing mental health and wellbeing locally and nationally.

“Improving mental health and wellbeing practices must be a major priority. So, it is very promising to see St Thomas’ ensuring pupils are taught how to practice Mindfulness to ensure a healthy mind. I would encourage every school to look into adopting this excellent practice. It was remarkable to hear each child explain the personal benefits they got from being able to draw on Mindfulness exercises when they need it”.

St Thomas’ developed a Mindfulness practice across the school in order to promote young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing. The practice was started by Mrs Dellaway when she taught Year 4 and 5 pupils Mindfulness techniques. There are now Mindfulness Ambassadors who have the important job of sharing the techniques throughout the school.

Amber encourages other schools and work places to take up Mindfulness and ensure better mental health and wellbeing standards.
