Recently, Amber Rudd MP met with the winner of her annual Christmas card competition. Schools across Hastings participate in this yearly competition, which acts as an opportunity for young people to hone their skills in creativity by putting together a Christmas card design for their local MP. The best Christmas card design is then used by Amber as her official parliamentary Christmas card.
Top marks for this year’s competition went to Ashton James of Ark William Parker Academy. Ashton visited Amber in her constituency office in St. Leonards-on-Sea to be personally congratulated by his local MP and to discuss the ideas that went into the design of his card. In recognition of his achievement, Ashton was awarded a tour of the Houses of Parliament in January. On being asked what his future ambitions were Ashton, who is in Year 7 at Ark William Parker, told Amber that it is his dream to one day become an architect.
Commenting on her meeting with Ashton, Amber said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet with Ashton and his mother Dora, and to offer my congratulations to Ashton on his impressive Christmas card design. I was also glad to hear that he is keen to pursue a career in architecture and design. Having gained a first-hand insight into Ashton’s creative ability, I can confidently say that Hastings and Rye is nurturing a promising architectural talent of the future!”
